MADISON Wis. — Today, the White House released updated state-specific fact sheets that highlight how the bipartisan infrastructure deal will benefit Wisconsin. This comes on the heels of local electeds, farmers, and families from across the state speaking out in support of this once-in-a-generation investment in our country’s infrastructure.
These investments will continue to build on Gov. Evers’ commitment to repairing Wisconsin’s roads and bridges.
1. Prepare more of our infrastructure for the impacts of climate change, cyber-attacks, and extreme weather events:
- Based on historical formula funding levels, Wisconsin will receive $20 million over five years to protect against wildfires and $18 million to protect against cyberattacks.
- Wisconsin families will benefit from the bill’s historic $3.5 billion national investment in weatherization which will reduce energy costs for families.
2. Deliver clean drinking water to every American and eliminate the nation’s lead service lines and pipes:
- Based on the traditional state revolving fund formula, Wisconsin will receive $841 million over five years to improve water infrastructure across the state and ensure that clean, safe drinking water is a right in all communities
3. Improve our nation’s airports:
- Airports in Wisconsin will receive approximately $198 million for infrastructure development for airports over five years.
This state-specific funding builds on previous reports that the infrastructure deal will provide the following investment in Wisconsin:
4. Repair and rebuild our roads and bridges with a focus on climate change mitigation,
resilience, equity, and safety for all users, including cyclists and pedestrians:
- Based on formula funding, Wisconsin would receive $5.2 billion for federal-aid highway repair programs and $225 million for bridge replacement and repairs over five years.
- Wisconsin can compete for the $12.5 billion Bridge Investment Program to secure funding for larger bridge restoration projects and $16 billion for major infrastructure projects that will deliver substantial economic benefits to communities.
5. Improve healthy, sustainable transportation options for millions of Americans:
- Based on formula funding, Wisconsin would receive $595 million over five years to improve the state’s public transportation systems.
6. Build a network of electric vehicle chargers to facilitate long-distance travel and provide convenient charging options:
- Wisconsin would receive $79 million over five years to expand an electric vehicle charging network across the state.
- Wisconsin can apply for $2.5 billion in grant funding dedicated to electric vehicle charging.
7. Help connect every American to reliable high-speed internet:
- Wisconsin will receive a minimum allocation of $100 million to help provide broadband across the state.
- 1,246,000 or 22% of people in Wisconsin will be eligible for the Affordability Connectivity Benefit, which will help low-income families afford internet access.
