Madison, Wis. – The Wisconsin Historical Society is excited to receive $1 million in Recovery Act funds to help reopen visitor experiences at the currently paused historical sites across the state.
“Our historic sites are vital to the tourism economies of their communities and we are pleased that this funding has come through to help us open the doors,” said Christian Overland, Ruth and Hartley Barker Director & CEO of the Wisconsin Historical Society. “We would also like to extend our thanks to the Administration, local legislators, the Governor’s Council on Tourism and local community members for their commitment and support of these vital community assets.”
The Society will begin immediately to hire and train staff and prepare to open the doors to guests with the goal of all sites being accessible in August.
Currently, Old World Wisconsin (Eagle), Circus World Museum (Baraboo), Black Point Estate & Gardens (Lake Geneva) and the Wisconsin Historical Museum (Madison) are open for guests. Madeline Island Museum (La Pointe) is scheduled to reopen on July 22, 2021.
The sites that will be reopening include Wade House (Greenbush), HH Bennett Studio & Museum (Wisconsin Dells), Reed School (Neillsville), Pendarvis (Mineral Point), Stonefield (Cassville), Villa Louis (Prairie du Chien) and First Capitol (Belmont).
