A wide field of Republicans is taking shape for the GOP primary to take on Dem Gov. Tony Evers in 2022.

Registered candidates include Jonathan Wichmann, of Franklin, who had declared he would run if there had been a successful petition drive to recall Evers; Leonard Edward Larson Jr., of Menomonie; and James Kellen, of Burlington.

Also exploring bids are former U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, Madison businessman Eric Hovde, former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, Madison lobbyist Bill McCoshen and former U.S. Senate candidate Kevin Nicholson.
