(MILWAUKEE, WI) – Early Wednesday morning, Senate Democrats passed a historic $3.5 trillion budget resolution that invests over $100 billion in creating a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented youth, TPS holders, essential workers and families. This resolution is the first step towards winning citizenship for millions and now moves onto Congress, where they will take up the resolution later this month.

Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera, issued the following statement:

“Voces de la Frontera and the immigrant rights movement nationally have been organizing for decades to win a pathway to citizenship, and we are closer than ever to achieving that goal. Immigrant essential workers have made major sacrifices to keep our economy running during the pandemic. In order for our country to “Build Back Better,” Biden and Democrats must deliver on their promise and honor the sacrifices and economic contributions of immigrant workers and families to our communities by passing citizenship for all in 2021.

Voces de la Frontera applauds Senator Tammy Baldwin and all Senate Democrats for passing this historic legislation, and condemns Senator Ron Johnson and Senate Republicans who tried to block progress and continue to tout racist, white supremacist rhetoric and policy. We urge Congressional Democrats, including Wisconsin’s Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Congressmen Mark Pocan and Ron Kind, to take this bill to the finish line and oppose any anti-immigrant amendments.”
