Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Ron Kind released the following statement regarding the discussions between United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai, United States Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis to address global steel and aluminum excess capacity, and tariffs on imports from the EU under section 232.

“I commend President Biden, Ambassador Tai, and Secretary Raimondo for taking this important first step towards finding a real solution to address the global oversupply in steel and aluminum markets that doesn’t cost American consumers more money out of their pockets. We need to work with our allies to find a path towards removing the damaging 232 tariffs and avoid more retaliatory tariffs from some of our closest allies that would only hurt our manufacturers, farmers, and businesses more. I urge the Administration to work closely with Congress and update us on their progress in the weeks to come.”

Rep. Kind serves on the Subcommittee on Trade for the Ways and Means Committee, the most powerful – and the oldest – committee in the House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction over tax measures, the management of public debt, trade and tariff laws, Social Security, Medicare, pensions, and many other economic growth measures.
