WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after President Biden urged OPEC to increase its oil production.
“Since Nixon, it’s been the stated objective of every Administration to achieve US energy independence and limit our reliance on the OPEC cartel. Thanks to the incredible success of the US shale revolution, we recently achieved exactly that. It’s therefore appalling to hear President Biden — who has openly discouraged the continued development of US oil and gas resources by canceling the Keystone Pipeline and ending federal leasing — beg the OPEC cartel for help in addressing higher energy costs.
“We all want to see renewable energy grow in this country — the goal is to not shoot ourselves in the foot and empower enemies like Iran as we move towards that future. That requires this Administration to do the obvious and continue to support oil and gas producers rather than take us back to the days of US dependence on foreign sources for energy.”
