WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after a group of Congressional Democrats re-introduced the Green New Deal, legislation that would have a disastrous impact on Wisconsin’s economy.
According to a report published last year by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL), the Green New Deal would result in $200 million in losses to Wisconsin farmers, $2.5 billion in costs to Wisconsin’s dairy industry, and would increase household costs by $75,000 in year one. A one-pager of the study can be found HERE.
“The Green New Deal costs trillions of dollars, destroys agriculture and other critical industries, and leaves hardworking Wisconsinites to foot the bill. It’s an absolute disaster that should be a non-starter in Congress, not a call to action.
“Instead of pushing for a radical pipe dream, we need to pursue an all-of-the-above energy approach that preserves our environment, spurs energy innovation, and promotes economic growth. That includes both empowering the Northeast Wisconsin farmers already implementing carbon-reducing practices and supporting projects like the Keystone Pipeline that are better for the environment and create good-paying jobs.
“Unlike some of my colleagues, I know we don’t have to destroy our economy to reduce our carbon footprint. There are a number of proposals already on the table that achieve this goal and I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance these solutions in the 117th Congress.”
