Fitzgerald Statement on Sanders’ Proposal to Inflate U.S. Deficit

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) voted against H. Res. 601, a rule providing for consideration and passage of S. Con Res. 14, the Democrats’ reckless budget proposal that would incur $17 trillion in new debt over 10 years, including $3.5 trillion that would be spent immediately on partisan priorities.

“This multitrillion-dollar spending spree, drafted by Bernie Sanders, is the left’s latest attempt to use the budget reconciliation process to pass ridiculous proposals they know can’t muster support as standalone bills. To put things in perspective for Wisconsinites, this reconciliation would burden hardworking Wisconsin taxpayers with an additional $310 billion in debt, reverse tax relief the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act provided Wisconsin families, and eliminate right to work protections our state enjoys. Simply put, this unprecedented spending spree makes Wisconsin worse off.”
