Madison, WI – Today the Wisconsin State Senate passed a budget that included nearly $3.4 billion in tax cuts – a clear contrast from the $1 billion in tax increases proposed by Governor Evers in February. Senator Patrick Testin (Stevens Point) voted in favor of passage.
“We’re saying ‘No’ to Governor Evers’ tax increases and ‘Yes’ to the taxpayers who deserve income and property tax relief,” said Senator Testin. “This budget saves the typical Wisconsin family around $1,200, while also keeping our commitments to fund long-term care, transportation, K-12 education, and broadband.”
The legislature’s budget makes critical investments while also being fiscally responsible. The budget borrows less than half of what the Governor’s budget proposed and deposits $550 million into the state’s rainy day fund. Wisconsin’s $450 million ending balance is the largest in over two decades.
“People in Wisconsin work hard and pay their taxes. They expect and deserve wise fiscal management. This budget delivers that, and I’m proud to support it.”
The budget passed the Senate 23-9 with bi-partisan support. It now heads to the desk of Governor Evers who has the option to sign it, veto it in full, or utilize the line item veto on certain provisions. For an in-depth analysis of the budget, please visit this website.
