Madison, WI – Today, Senator Dan Feyen (R-Fond du Lac), released the following statement on 2021 Senate Joint Resolution 3:

“The vote I took today is not about masks. It is not Republicans being anti-science, it is about following state law and the state constitution.

“The Governor’s emergency powers are vast, but checks and balances still exist. Emergency Orders are statutorily limited to 60 days. At that point, the Governor must work with the legislature to extend that order. Governor Evers is now on day 321. We have given the governor ample time and opportunity to come to the table and work with us. Instead, he has continually chosen to go it on his own, directly violating state law.

“I believe the best way to combat this virus is by the local government officials who are closest and most accountable to the people, not through big-government statewide mandates. Ending the Emergency Order will not prevent businesses, schools, or local officials from putting mask requirements in place.

“I will continue to urge people to be smart, we are not out of the woods yet. We need to use common sense and follow CDC guidelines. That includes wearing masks, washing your hands, and maintaining social distancing.”
