Madison…Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) released the following statement on news of a tentative settlement in the nationwide opioid litigation and 2021 Wisconsin Act 57, the law which allows Wisconsin communities to more quickly receive approximately $400 million in Opioid Settlement Funds:

“With the news of Wisconsin local government litigants reaching a tentative settlement agreement with drug makers, we are encouraged to see our bipartisan legislation is facilitating the quick delivery of opioid settlement funds to the front lines of prevention and mitigation efforts.

“With the funds getting to the local communities more quickly, Wisconsin counties will be better equipped to fight the epidemic of drug overdoses and opioid dependence that destroy lives, tear apart families, and negatively impact every corner of our state. We hope this settlement news and our enabling legislation means Wisconsin is turning a significant corner in the fight against opioid addiction.”
