MADISON – Following in-depth discussions with community advocates, faith leaders, law enforcement experts, and bipartisan legislative leaders, the Speaker’s Task Force on Racial Disparities Subcommittee on Law Enforcement Policies and Procedures has released its report.

Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna), Co-Chair of the task force, released the following statement:

“I am incredibly proud of the bipartisan work we’ve done to have the hard conversations that will make a difference in the lives of people of color in Wisconsin. As we all know, this issue can be incredibly polarizing, yet we have succeeded in bringing the community and law enforcement voices to the table and finding consensus where available and moving forward, together.

“Our report comes from methodical, purposeful discussions to find a path forward and includes recommendations that our subcommittee members agreed would be positive changes for both our communities and law enforcement.

“I’d like to thank Rep. Stubbs for her work as the Co-Chair and her willingness to reach across the aisle for the betterment of Wisconsinites. I look forward to continuing our work together as we start the process of turning these recommendations into legislative action. I am optimistic that these bipartisan recommendations will make a real difference in addressing racial disparities in Wisconsin.”
