Neylon Votes for Bills Protecting 2nd Amendment and Eliminating Federal UI Bonus Payments

Pewaukee — Today State Representative Adam Neylon (R-Pewaukee) issued the following statement in response to voting in favor of Assembly Bills 293 and 336 in the State Assembly:

“As a supporter of the 2nd Amendment I was proud to vote in favor of Assembly Bill 293 today. I took the oath of office to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution, and this bill does just that by ensuring the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. This bill prohibits any state funds or personnel from enforcing a federal act, law, statute, rule, regulation, treaty or order if it bans or tries to regulate firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition.

“Arguably the biggest challenge facing Wisconsin policy makers right now is the workforce shortage. Assembly Bill 336 supports Wisconsin employers and employees by ending Wisconsin’s participation in the bonus federal unemployment insurance (UI) payments. These bonus payments allow people collecting UI payments to earn nearly $17/hr to stay home.

“With COVID restrictions easing across the nation, businesses are trying to get back up and running, and we should not stand in their way. The problem is the federal bonus payments for UI, paid on top of state benefits, have had the effect of disincentivizing workers from getting back into the workforce. Lawmakers must do everything they can to get people back in the workforce and fill the current jobs that exist, before those businesses close and those jobs go away. This bill sends a clear message – Wisconsin is open for business.”
