Rep. Ron Kind’s Statement on the Administration Utilizing USMCA Enforcement Measures

La Crosse, WI—Today, Rep. Ron Kind released the following statement after United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai announced that the United States will take enforcement action to ensure Canada meets its commitments under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):

“I commend the Administration for moving forward with enforcement measures that I called for with bipartisan support. Trade agreements work best when they are fully enforced, which is why I spent years working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make sure USMCA is fully enforceable and Wisconsin dairy farmers are able to compete on an even playing field. I’ll continue to fight to ensure Wisconsin farmers, workers, and families see the full benefits of USMCA, and look forward to working alongside the Administration to support our family farmers.”

Last week, Rep. Kind led a bipartisan letter to United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack calling on them to move forward with enforcement measures negotiated in the USMCA to support U.S. dairy farmers.

Rep. Kind serves on the Subcommittee on Trade for the Ways and Means Committee, the most powerful – and the oldest – committee in the House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction over tax measures, the management of public debt, trade and tariff laws, Social Security, Medicare, pensions, and many other economic growth measures.
