Rep. Kind Announces $10 Million in Federal Funding for Wisconsin’s Rural Health Clinics

Washington, DC—Today, Rep. Ron Kind announced that 109 Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) in Wisconsin will receive a total of $10,900,000 in federal funding for COVID-19 testing and mitigation thanks to the American Rescue Plan. Each Rural Health Clinic will receive $100,000 to maintain and increase access to COVID-19 testing for rural residents and broaden efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus in ways tailored to their local communities.

“Communities across Wisconsin rely on our outstanding Rural Health Clinics and providers for access to quality, local care—especially this last year. As we turn the corner on this pandemic and vaccines continue to roll out, it’s more important than ever to be giving our Rural Health Clinics the funding they need to continue fighting off this virus, getting shots in people’s arms, and keeping Wisconsinites safe and healthy,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, our Rural Health Clinics continue to get the support they need to do just that.”

“These federal dollars represent an important investment in Rural Health Clinics and serve as recognition of the vital role they play in serving rural patients, families and communities,” said Dr. Susan Turney, CEO of Marshfield Clinic Health System. “Rural Health Clinics ensure access to high-quality health care in communities that may not otherwise be able to support clinical sites. Ensuring care as close to home as possible is a foundational element of our approach to caring for communities across Wisconsin. These funds will make a meaningful difference in the lives and well-being of those we serve.”

Rep. Kind is the co-chair of the House Rural Health Care Coalition and serves on the Subcommittee on Health for the Ways and Means Committee, the most powerful – and the oldest – committee in the House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction over tax measures, the management of public debt, trade and tariff laws, Social Security, Medicare, pensions, and many other economic growth measures.
