MADISON – Today, the Assembly met in person to vote on 2021 Assembly Bill 1. Assembly
Democratic Assistant Leader Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) issued the following statement:

“After months of waiting for real pandemic relief from the State Legislature, Assembly
Republicans fast tracked a special interest wish-list bill that faces no chance of passage in the State Senate. This is extremely disappointing when there are urgent issues we need to address like access to affordable health care and economic security.

“Unfortunately, Republicans did not include rental and food assistance, or provisions
to help prevent evictions and foreclosures. Families and small businesses across Wisconsin are facing unprecedented challenges. That’s why on day one, Assembly Democrats introduced a comprehensive plan to make sure that we can avoid future evictions, foreclosures,
and small business closures.

“We want to deliver on the priorities reflecting the will of the people. I was proud
to vote for the Democratic amendment to fund community testing sites, support vaccine distribution, provide rental assistance and small business grants, allow hazard pay for our healthcare heroes, and much more. Now is the time for state leaders to come together
and put the people of Wisconsin first with meaningful solutions.”
