Rep. Jodi Emerson: Statement on GOP Election Bills

MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed four Republican-authored bills to restrict voter rights (AB 179AB 198AB 201AB 271). Rep. Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) released the following statement in response:

“I was disappointed to see these bills pass in the Assembly today. Protecting our right to vote, no matter the form, should be our priority, not creating more barriers and scare tactics for our voters. These bills are based in conspiracy theories from even before the 2020 election and is just part of a national movement by Republicans to undermine our elections and limit voter rights. Court cases, audits, and recounts have all proven that Wisconsin’s elections are safe and secure. These bills are a blatant and unnecessary attack on our democracy”

“Wisconsin needs election laws that uphold our democracy and protect voter rights. That is why I was proud to co-author AB 395, which seeks to create new procedures and redistricting standards to ensure fair maps are drawn. I encourage Republicans to support this piece of legislation, as it will actually help uphold our democracy.”
