MILWAUKEE – The County Board will take up a proposal from Supervisor John F. Weishan, Jr. Thursday to increase the membership of the County Board of Supervisors from 18 to 21 effective by the February 2022 Spring Primary Election.

“With redistricting around the corner, we have a once in a decade window to maximize the opportunity for racial equity on the County Board,” said Supervisor Weishan. “By increasing the number of supervisory districts from 18 to 21, we give the Independent Redistricting Committee the best path towards creating districts that give minority residents of Milwaukee County equitable representation.”

In 2015, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance creating the Independent Redistricting Committee, tasked with redrawing supervisory districts in the best interest of the residents of Milwaukee County. The Committee will begin meeting later this year.
