[Milwaukee, WI] – At 10:00 a.m June 6, 2021 the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (MAARPR) will be holding a press conference at Milwaukee Police Department District 6. On the night of May 30th, Roberto Zielisnki was shot by MPD officers who were responding to a 911 call at 29th and Cleveland. Zielinski died following his interaction with police. MAARPR members arrived at the scene the morning of June 1 to see MPD on site, with Waukesha Police Department nowhere to be seen, although they were assigned to investigate the case under Michael Bell Law mandates.

When police arrived at the call they escalated the situation, resulting in the loss of Zielinski’s life. The family demands transparency from MPD, and for body cam footage to be released; MAARPR supports them in this fight. The family and community deserve the immediate release of bodycam footage and names of the officers involved. Bodycam footage serves as an unbiased source of what occurred on the morning of May 30. We demand CPAC as a community based way of holding the police accountable and ensuring justice for victims of police violence.

The Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (MAARPR) campaigns against police crimes committed primarily against the poor and Black, Indigeneous, and people of color. We demand the creation of a civilian police accountability council, or CPAC, to ensure that our community is in direct control of our police force.
