MILWAUKEE – The following statement was released by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 494 Business Manager Dean A. Warsh on Colectivo’s election certification results:

“Today’s result in the Colectivo Coffee Organizing campaign in Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago doesn’t mark the end, it merely marks a new chapter in the workers’ desire for better rights and protections at their worksites.”

“Due to the number of challenged ballots in the Colectivo Coffee election, results of the election will require an NLRB hearing to determine the outcome.  Once decisions to either include or exclude these ballots have been made, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will open the ballots at a later date to tabulate results.  The time frame will depend on the scheduling of the hearing by the NLRB and/or opening of ballots. We do not know the dates when this will take place.”

“We are very proud of the workers at Colectivo Coffee! They have taken a bold and necessary step toward ensuring that every employee has fair treatment and dignity in their work. Further, they have strengthened the bonds and created new friendships with workers at Colectivo worksites across state lines—developing a shared understanding and commitment to each other’s well-being. They put their hearts and soul into this organizing effort and left nothing on the field!”

“The workers at Colectivo Coffee hope that this inspires others in the hospitality/service industry to Organize a Union at their workplace!”
