MADISON — The museum staff invites the public to participate safely in the Wisconsin Veterans Museum’s intriguing and informative programming this winter through virtual platforms.
“Despite being closed, we can still make our mission to tell Wisconsin veteran stories through engaging digital programming. The great staff here has assembled a wonderful lineup of programs that highlight many aspects of what we do and the stories we are charged to preserve and share,” says Chris Kolakowski, museum director.
For Winter 2021, WVM staff presents the following free events:
Movie Night Discussions – Participants watch a designated movie and get together via Zoom with museum staff to discuss points of military and historic significance.

Curator Conversations -These panel discussions cover various topics of interest and include subject-matter experts on the WVM staff and guest speakers.
January 28, Noon – 1:00 PM
Rock Force, A Book by Kevin Maurer – Award-winning journalist and bestselling author Kevin Maurer will discuss his book. Rock Force is a play-by-play of the ten days it took for U.S. troops to win back Corregidor during WWII.
March 8, Noon – 1:00 PM
I Was Anxious to Go: Women and the Military – Join a discussion of women veterans in service as taken from their personal letters, diaries, and reminiscences, and what service meant to them at the time and later in their lives.

WARdrobe: Examining the Military Service Uniform for Women – From ill-fitting compromises to designer couture, the quest for uniformity with male counterparts has been almost as great of a struggle as the desire for women to serve. The museum staff will discuss the military uniform designs and regulations for women in service from WWI to present and they will examine the strengths and weakness of this evolution.
Trivia Nights – Individuals or teams to go head-to-head in a friendly test of wit. Participants play four rounds of trivia, with each round focusing on topics associated with Wisconsin military history, and include: history, pop culture, names and places, events, and fun facts.

Drink and Draw – Host artists invite participants to gather art supplies and a beverage for an informal drawing lesson.

The 32nd Red Arrow Division in World War I
In this lecture, World War I historian Dr. Edward Lengel looks at the exploits of the Red Arrow Division in World War I, emphasizing what the war was like from the perspective of the men who fought it.
