WAUSAU, WI –  As COVID-19 hospitalizations in Wisconsin soared to new records on Monday, Rep. Tom Tiffany convened a campaign event that failed to comply with CDC safety guidelines.  This indoor event had no mask in sight and a clear lack of safe social distancing. Failure to adhere to CDC guidelines remains a continued practice by Tom Tiffany, including his recent attendance at President Trump’s rally in central Wisconsin. Since that rally, cases have exploded in central Wisconsin.

WI-07 Democratic Candidate Tricia Zunker released the following statement in response:

“Rep. Tiffany has demonstrated a consistent reckless disregard for the health and safety of the people of Wisconsin, most recently by convening an indoor campaign event without masks or safe social distancing.  At a time when Wisconsin is a national COVID-19 hotspot, he has failed to comply with simple recommendations of the CDC.

We can stop the spread of contagion with a few protective measures: wear a mask, safe social distance, wash hands frequently and limit exposure to others to necessary travel.  This isn’t a Democratic issue or a Republican issue – this is an American health and safety issue and everyone must do their part to reduce the spread of contagion and save lives.

Furthermore, we have an in-person debate next week. His carelessness here has now risked the health and safety of me, my staff, and all staff at the debate, including the moderator, director, camera operator, and crew.

It’s clear from this deliberate action that Tom Tiffany does not care who he puts at risk. Leaders set good examples and make responsible decisions in the interest of the health and safety of everyone. Rep. Tiffany may be elected, but he is not a leader.”
