MADISON – Gov. Tony Evers today announced an executive order that would delay the Spring Election and Presidential Primary to June 9. Wisconsin Conservation Voters supports this order.

Executive Director Kerry Schumann issued this statement:

“Gov. Evers made the right call today by ordering a delay of this week’s election. It’s unconscionable to unnecessarily subject thousands of people to the health risks associated with COVID-19, including spreading the virus to the most vulnerable among us – our parents, our grandparents, and those already facing serious health issues.

There is no reason to sacrifice our health – and potentially lives. Our first priority must be a focus on fighting the real enemy: this virus and its health risks. As a 40,000-strong member organization focused on a strong democracy and public health, we want every voter, no matter political stance, to be able to safely exercise their most fundamental Constitutional right safely and without fear.

We applaud Gov. Evers decision, and encourage those who have requested absentee ballots to stay the course and return them as soon as possible.”
