West Bend, WI – In 2021, Washington County will welcome a new face to the Office of County Executive Josh Schoemann. Schoemann has tapped Ed Eberle, a long-time public servant, to lead his office. Current Deputy County Executive Matt Furno has announced that he will retire. Eberle and Furno will work together on the transition with Furno leading the future of Samaritan Campus discussion.
“Ed has years of experience working with conservative government reformers and getting things done,” said Schoemann. “Washington County citizens are going to be well served by the experienced team we have assembled to lead the county. As I promised on the campaign, Washington County will focus on the people by engaging our community.”
“I am honored to join the first county executive administration in Washington County,” said Eberle. “A successful transition to an elected Executive Branch of government will ensure Washington County is put on the right path.¨
This is Eberle’s second stint in county government. He served then-County Executive Scott Walker as deputy chief of staff in Milwaukee County. Throughout his gubernatorial administration, Walker appointed Eberle to numerous positions calumniating with the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources. Most recently, Eberle served as a policy advisor to State Senator Dave Craig.
“Ed Eberle is an outstanding public servant who understands county and state government well,” said Walker. “He will be a great help to County Executive Josh Schoemann as they serve the hard-working taxpayers of Washington County.”
Eberle joins Ethan Hollenberger, public affairs coordinator, and Tarra Gundrum, executive assistant and projects coordinator, in the Office of County Executive. Hollenberger has nearly a decade of experience in public policy and communications, while Gundrum, a Marine Veteran, has over 15-years of experience assisting private sector business executives. Eberle’s hiring does not add to the county employee count.
In the coming months, Washington County will unveil a new county website, a newsletter, and other avenues for citizens to engage with county leaders as Schoemann’s administration focuses on the people.
