Franklin, WI – Forward Latino, a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy and service organization dedicated to assisting Latinos pursuing the American Dream, today declared success in their Latino voter outreach and protection program launched this summer with the goal of increasing Latino voter participation. For the 2020 national election, Latinos made up the largest minority voting demographic in the United States with over 32 million eligible Latino voters. Forward Latino’s efforts targeted the battleground state of Wisconsin as well as the 3rd Congressional District in Iowa.
Darryl Morin, Forward Latino President stated, “In Wisconsin, we saw the 2016 Presidential contest decided by 22,000 votes. There are now over 200,000 eligible Latino voters in Wisconsin. Knowing that Wisconsin’s Latino population could decide our next President, we wanted to ensure Latinos would be able to exercise their constitutional right to vote and to do so free of voter intimidation. Our efforts included everything from printing personalized “Get Out To Vote” information sheets listing the address of the polling place for each voter by ward, to setting up a voting rights hotline with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, to deploying teams of Election Observers to polling sites across the state.”
Forward Latino National Vice President added, “In Iowa, we partnered with LULAC, ACLU and The Hispanic Institute to coordinate a GOTV program in the 3rd Congressional District which reaching out to tens of thousands of Latino voters by mail, phone calls and hand billing in neighborhoods and community functions.”
Morin concluded “While we await the final counts from both states, we are proud of the
prominent role our membership, and more importantly, our community played in this years
elections!”
