Republican Derrick Van Orden, in the first TV ad of his bid for the 3rd CD, touts his service as a Navy Seal.

His campaign said the ad will run on cable district-wide but declined to provide other details on the buy.

The narrator opens the ad noting Van Orden enlisted in the Navy as a teen and became a decorated combat SEAL.

“I took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” Van Orden says. “Those don’t expire. That’s why I’m running for Congress.”

Van Orden’s campaign says he raised $526,335 during the second quarter. He faces Jessi Ebben for the GOP nomination in western Wisconsin’s 3rd CD on Aug. 11.

U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, of La Crosse, faces retired Dr. Mark Neumann for the Dem nomination. Neumann raised $4,459 during the second quarter, spent $12,334 and had $515 in the bank.

Ebben and Kind, who had nearly $3.1 million in the bank at the end of March, hadn’t filed their reports yet as of last night.

Finance reports for state and federal candidates are due today.
