JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN—Bryan Steil released a statement after Janesville native, Maddie Schroeder, returned safely back to Wisconsin. Maddie had been stuck in Peru due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am excited to announced that Maddie has returned safely home to Janesville. By working with officials at the State Department, the Embassy in Peru, and the Schroeder family, Maddie got out of Peru. I’m relieved that Maddie’s ordeal is over. I encourage anyone to reach out to my office who needs assistance with the federal government during these challenging times,” said Steil.

On Sunday night, Steil spoke to Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Julie Chung, who is stationed in Peru, and other State Department officials specifically regarding Maddie Schroeder’s situation. On Tuesday night, Maddie boarded a flight to the United States and recently arrived back in Wisconsin.

NBC15 has covered Maddie’s situation and Rep. Steil’s work to help throughout this process. You can read a past story here.
