La Crosse, WI—Today, our nation comes together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Rep. Ron Kind’s statement on Earth Day is below:
“As a native-Wisconsinite and an outdoorsman, I have enjoyed the incredible natural beauty of our state my whole life. There is nothing I like better than spending time outside with my family, and I will continue fighting to ensure our natural resources are protected for generations to come,” said Rep. Kind. “Being a good steward to the land is a responsibility we all share. Today on Earth Day, we come together to recommit ourselves to taking care of our planet.”
The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970, and was organized by former Wisconsin Governor and U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson.
Rep. Kind has been a longtime advocate for conservation and sustainability in the House of Representatives, supporting legislation that protects clean air and water programs and enhances wildlife habitat protection. He supports the Paris Climate Agreement and voted for the Climate Action Now Act, which would keep the country on track to meet benchmarks set by the Paris accord. Last Congress, he voted to limit carbon emissions and advance clean energy, and fought for the inclusion of conservation partnership programs and funding in the Farm Bill.
Rep. Kind is the Co-Chair of the Upper Mississippi River Basin Congressional Task Force, the National Parks Caucus, and serves on the Bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus.
