WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after voting against H.R. 8337.
“Once again, we’ve reached the end of the fiscal year and Congress has failed to fulfill its most basic responsibility. Instead of funding the government, we’ve opted to punt our problems to December by passing a continuing resolution. This is bad process, bad policy, and a betrayal of our core duty to the American people.
“Since 2010, Congress has worked under well over 1,000 days of continuing resolutions. In doing so, we’ve done nothing more than create an environment of uncertainty, jeopardize our men and women in uniform, and abdicate the power of the purse. The results stemming from this continuing resolution won’t be any different.
“Considering the House has been in session barely 60 days this year, Speaker Pelosi should cancel our upcoming recess so we can work together and actually do our job. Otherwise, come December, we’ll find ourselves grappling with the exact same problems we’re seeing today.”
