WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today announced that Green Bay and Appleton received grants of $1,012,287 and $592,072 respectively to support local government efforts to expand economic opportunity and development. Green Bay’s total also included a grant worth $552,451 through the HOME program to help expand supply of decent, affordable housing.

“Community Development Block Grants give states and localities the flexibility they need to tackle complex issues,” said Rep. Gallagher. “I hope this funding will give our communities the resources they need to help alleviate problems like the lack of affordable housing, and ensure Northeast Wisconsin continues to be the best place in the world to live and raise a family.”

Background:

The Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
