WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Bryan Steil released a statement following President Trump’s announcement that federal aid will be dispersed to Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine counties to assist with the damages to public infrastructure.
“I am pleased to see the federal government honor our request for assistance. Thank you to FEMA and the Administration for acting quickly to help Southeast Wisconsin. I spoke to President Trump and Vice President Pence about the shoreline damage in Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine counties. I am pleased the Administration provided federal assistance. In my visits to the shoreline and discussions with local officials, it is clear the gravity of the situation calls for federal aid. I will continue fighting for Southeast Wisconsin and working with local officials and the Trump Administration to protect our Lake Michigan shoreline,” said Steil.

Steil has been a strong advocate for federal funding to help Southeast Wisconsin rebuild. Following the January storms, Steil brought the shoreline issues to the attention of President Trump and Vice President Pence. On February 13, Steil co-led a delegation-wide effort to urge the president to approve Governor Evers’ federal disaster assistance request.
On February 27, Steil testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on the need to include funding for the Great Lakes in the 2020 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA).
Earlier this year, Steil visited Pershing Park in Racine to tour the shoreline damage. Steil also cosponsored the Great Lakes Coastal Resiliency Act of 2019 and Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act of 2019, which passed the House in February. Steil successfully advocated for full funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative in the president’s 2021 budget proposal. You can read his letter to President Trump here.
