MADISON – Today, Governor Tony Evers and Department of Administration Secretary Joel Brennan announced more than $36 million in funding for 42 public infrastructure projects for communities across Wisconsin. Four award recipients are within the 31st Senate District.

This funding is made available from the Community Development Block Grant for Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program. According to the Department of Administration, Wisconsin allocates this federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development “to provide affordable housing, suitable living environments, and expanded economic opportunities for persons with low and moderate incomes.”

The following four communities from the 31st Senate District received a CDBG-PF project award:

  • The City of Durand received $1 million in funding to make water, sewer, and street infrastructure improvements on 3rd Avenue.
  • The Village of Elmwood received $1 million in funding to make water, sewer, and street infrastructure improvements.
  • The Village of Maiden Rock received $750,600.00 in funding to construct a new well and wellhouse.
  • The City of Whitehall received $1 million in funding to make water, sewer, and street infrastructure improvements on Hobson Street.

In response to CDBG-PF Project Award announcement, Senator Jeff Smith (D – Brunswick) released the following statement:

“Governor Evers’ Administration is committed to investing in western Wisconsin communities. This funding will go a long way to ensure we have safe roads to drive on and the proper infrastructure to keep our communities clean and healthy.

“During this pandemic, I know our local governments have had to make difficult budgetary decisions and stretch every dollar to support their residents. It’s encouraging to see these communities are getting the well-deserved recognition and support to make these necessary infrastructure improvements.”
