(MADISON)—Today, Senator Tim Carpenter issued the following statement congratulating State Senator Fred Risser on his 93rd—I mean 39th!—birthday on May 5th:

“It has been my great pleasure to serve alongside Fred for all these years. He has been an endless source of knowledge and inspiration in the time that I have known him. Although the Legislature will be blessed with new leaders coming from the 26th Senate district, they must know that they have some very large shoes to fill!

“Having served for so many years, he has become the longest serving lawmaker in our nation’s history. As a result, his actions have become endlessly intertwined with our State, going back longer than most can remember. Because of his legacy, I propose that May 5th be celebrated as Fred Risser Day in Wisconsin, as a way to recognize him for his dedicated service to our state.

“I hope you have a great birthday this year, Fred!”
