MADISON– Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement announcing endorsements from the educational organizations AFT, MTI, and WEAC for her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District:

“Today I am beyond humbled and proud to share endorsements from AFT, MTI, and WEAC,” said Sargent. “Fully investing in our public education has always been a top priority for me, and I am truly honored to be endorsed by these three organizations, all who have worked tirelessly to invest in Wisconsin education, our students, and our teachers. Now more than ever, during this extremely difficult time, we need to be lifting up our educators and supporting them for their incredible dedication and commitment to providing quality education to our students despite current difficulties,” continued Sargent.

The American Federation of Teachers-Wisconsin (AFT), Madison Teachers Inc. (MTI), and Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) are three prominent teacher unions focused on funding high-quality public education, protecting teacher and students’ rights, and supporting the families of students and teachers.

“I truly appreciate AFT, MTI, and WEAC for their support,” said Sargent. “Public education is the cornerstone of our communities, and it is humbling to be receiving support from these unions who share and value Wisconsin’s education in the same manner. As we all work together during these ongoing difficulties, we need to be committed to our teachers more than ever and give them our utmost support.”
