MADISON– Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement announcing an endorsement from the United Auto Workers for her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District:
“Today I am humbled to announce that my campaign has received the endorsement from the United Auto Workers. To be endorsed by such a diverse union that also shares the values of supporting the working class, and the communities they live in, is a great honor,“ said Sargent.
Founded in 1935, the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is one of the largest and most diverse unions in North America. The UAW has over 400,000 active members and more than 580,000 retired members in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The UAW has been a leader in the struggle to secure economic and social justice for all people, having been actively involved in civil rights campaigns including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Fair Housing Act, and the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1988.
“It is my honor to be endorsed by the United Auto Workers, such an upstanding union that has been actively fighting for workers rights, as well as economic and social justice for all people. I am beyond proud to be receiving their endorsement, and I truly appreciate UAW’s support,” said Sargent.
