MADISON – Today, Governor Evers announced a $1 billion statewide effort to support COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, acquisition of needed supplies including PPE, emergency operations, and resources for local communities throughout Wisconsin. This is part of the $1.9 billion of federal CARES Act funding Wisconsin received. State Representative Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) released the following statement in support of this effort:

“This investment in our state’s emergency operations is a crucial step forward in our fight against COVID-19. We can further expand capacity for testing and contact tracing to manage and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Wisconsin — they are the best tools we have to understand and reduce the transmission of the virus in our state.

“I have been fighting for PPE for our frontline healthcare workers since this pandemic first hit our state. Healthcare workers will continue performing their vital roles, because it is not simply what they do, but who they are, and we have to do our best to protect them as they protect us from this virus.

“Our local health departments are doing extraordinary work to combat the spread of COVID-19 in our communities, and we need to support their efforts to keep us safe and healthy. I will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners to ensure we have the necessary resources to protect the health and safety of Wisconsinites.”
