MADISON– In her “record of decision” announced yesterday, U.S. Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett officially designated Madison’s Truax Field as one of two sites chosen for the F-3A aircraft operational beddown. Representative Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement in response:

“Yesterday, the United States Air Force officially selected Truax Field Air National Guard Base as one of the two sites to receive the F-35A aircraft, with the aircrafts set to arrive in 2023. This decision comes after many years of analysis and public discourse. As the State Representative for the 48th Assembly District, which encompasses Truax Field and the surrounding community, I remain dedicated to hearing from my constituency and pursuing and sharing answers to important inquiries regarding this process.  Additionally, I am committed to working within the State Legislature to ensure environmental protections, equity, and economic prosperity for all Wisconsinites.

I look forward to continuing to work with the women and men of the 115th Fighter Wing, the surrounding community impacted by this designation, and the State of Wisconsin as the implementation of this bed down moves forward in the coming months and years. At the end of the day it is our government’s job to protect its people, including from any potential health detriments to our society– I am committed to continuing to move forward together as a community to ensure that any potential negative implications of this decision are addressed.

his implementation will require the utmost government transparency and a commitment to civic engagement. I will continue to advocate on behalf of the collective good of my district– my friends and neighbors– throughout this process.”
