MADISON– Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement announcing an endorsement from Dave Mahoney, for her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District:

 

“Today I am proud to announce a campaign endorsement from Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney, who works day in and day out to keep our community safe and fight for justice,” Sargent said. Sheriff Mahoney is truly the epitome of strong and compassionate leadership, and I am thankful for his contributions to our community.”

 

Dave Mahoney has served as the 52nd Dane County Sheriff since his election in 2006. In his tenure, Sheriff Mahoney has been dedicated to juvenile justice reforms, ensuring safe jail conditions and infrastructure, addressing overcrowding, fostering community partnerships, and restorative measures within the criminal justice system. Sheriff Mahoney’s career spans over 34 years– after working as an EMT, police dispatcher, and police officer, he became a Dane County Deputy Sheriff in 1980. He was promoted to Detective in 1985, and investigated more than 1,600 cases including extensive work on sex crimes and domestic violence. As a detective, Mahoney directed major homicide and drug investigations and served as a member of the first Domestic Violence Investigation Unit in the Sheriff’s office. As Dane County Sheriff, Sheriff Mahoney is active on issues of national, statewide and county importance including service in numerous professional associations and committees.
