Washington, DC —Today, Rep. Ron Kind encouraged Wisconsin dairy farmers to sign up for the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program for 2021 ahead of the December 11 deadline. The program offers protection for dairy farmers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer.

Interested dairy farmers can visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency’s DMC webpage for more information, or contact their local FSA office.

“Here in America’s Dairyland, our farmers are not only the backbone of our state and local economies, but also the heart of our communities,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “However, this year has been incredibly difficult for Wisconsin dairy farmers due to COVID-19. As the farming community continues to cope with the effects of this pandemic and face other ongoing challenges, I encourage folks to take advantage of this program. Get in touch with your local FSA office to learn more and sign up by December 11.”

Earlier this year, Rep. Kind introduced his Family Farm Rescue Plan which focused on five concrete steps the Administration could take to support family farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic, including reopening the DMC program.
