WASHINGTON, D.C. – Out of an abundance of caution, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today announced that starting tomorrow he will temporarily close his Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin offices in an effort to better protect staff and reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Staff – none of whom have the virus or have shown symptoms of it – will work from home throughout the duration of the temporary closure.

“At a time when we should be doing all we can to slow the spread of coronavirus, Congress must lead by example. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, I have asked my staff to begin temporarily working remotely starting tomorrow. My top priority is the health and safety of both my staff and Northeast Wisconsinites, and it’s become clear to me that this will be an effective way for my offices – and anyone planning to visit my offices – to reduce exposure to the virus.

“While our offices will be temporarily closed, make no mistake: we won’t stop working tirelessly for Northeast Wisconsin. We will continue to take calls, regularly respond to constituent messages, post updates on social media and our website, and serve as a reliable source for information on the virus.

“In the Marines, we often said, ‘Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.’ In that spirit, it’s important for us all to recognize that short term ounces of prevention such as this will be worth pounds of cure in the coming weeks. This is not a time to panic, it’s a time to prepare, and now is the time to take steps to minimize the virus’s impact. I encourage anyone seeking more information on the virus to contact my office to stay informed.”
