MADISON – This week, The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin sent a letter to state and local officials urging public responses to the increasing incidents of harassment, discrimination, and attacks on Asian-Americans in Wisconsin and around the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In two weeks alone, there were over 1,100 reports of racist attacks on Asian-Americans.

Representative  Emerson (D-Eau Claire) released the following statement in support of ACLU’s efforts:

During this national crisis, it is vital that we unite and support our neighbors. Spewing hateful rhetoric and carrying out violent attacks is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. Blaming Asian Americans for Covid-19 is as ridiculous as blaming me if this virus had started in Norway or Sweden. The only thing I can think of to say to that behavior is “Uff-da!”
