Madison, WI—Today, Representative Rob Brooks (R-Saukville) was presented with the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Building Wisconsin award for his work to advance the state’s construction industry.

This session, Representative Brooks co-authored Assembly Bill 45/Senate Bill 45, which would allow apprentice tuition to be treated identically to college and university tuition for income tax deduction purposes.

“This legislation sought to fix an equity issue for apprenticeship tuition, as those pursuing the trades are just as deserving of income tax deductions, as those attending college or university. Apprentices could use the money being returned to them to purchase tools, equipment, and books to further their careers,” said Representative Brooks.

In addition, Representative Brooks signed a letter to President Trump requesting project labor agreement neutrality for federal projects, which is already in practice in Wisconsin.

“Next session, I plan to continue to work on behalf of the hardworking men and women in our state’s construction industry. These individuals are literally building Wisconsin and I will seek to remove existing roadblocks that prevent small business from competing for public projects. I am also interested in continuing to close the construction skills gap, so more Wisconsinites will be able to pursue family supporting and lifelong careers that cannot be outsourced,” stated Representative Brooks.

This is the third session that Representative Brooks has been a recipient of the award.
