Rep. Stafsholt Opposes Evers’ Statewide Mask Mandate
New Richmond…On Thursday Governor Evers issued Executive Order #82 declaring a public health emergency, as well as Emergency Order #1, a statewide mandate, requiring individuals to wear face coverings when indoors with some exceptions. Representative Rob Stafsholt (R-New Richmond) issued the following statement:
“Over the past several weeks, I have talked with countless constituents – citizens, community leaders, law enforcement officials – who are concerned about the actions originating in Madison that have a negative impact on our region. Governor Evers’ mask order should be a regional approach and not a statewide mandate. Instead, we’re left with a politically-motivated directive that circumvents the Legislature. Our area of northwest Wisconsin is not Milwaukee; the issues facing both communities are different, and our government’s guidance should reflect that. The feedback received from my constituents is overwhelmingly opposed to this order, in fact, it is at 86% opposed as of this moment. We need to address this pandemic in a way that protects those at risk while allowing our economy to safely function. A one-size-fits-all government mandate is not the way to achieve that. Governor Evers’ agenda has time and again alienated rural Wisconsin, and I will continue to fight for the hardworking men and women who deserve to be heard. I believe it is time for us in the Legislature to be the voice for our constituents on this matter.”
