MILWAUKEE, WI — Today, Protect Our Care’s nationwide virtual “Your Health, Your Vote” tour arrived in Wisconsin to highlight Republicans’ ongoing war on health care and failed coronavirus response. Headlined by U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, Attorney General Josh Kaul, Former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, the event highlighted how eTrump’s health care sabotage, including a lawsuit to completely dismantle the Affordable Care Act during a pandemic, would impact Wisconsinites’ care. They also called on Republicans to denounce Trump’s war on health care and discussed Democrats’ agenda to improve health care and lower costs for Americans.

“While our nation fights an unprecedented health care crisis, President Trump is continuing his work of the past four years, and sabotaging our health care system, and making it harder for people to get the health care they want and need,” said U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, who recently introduced new legislation to help the more than six million American workers who have lost their health insurance during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Trump’s failure to confront this deadly pandemic has led to job loss and lives lost, and we cannot allow this to become the new normal. We have to remember this in November, because perhaps more than ever, health care is on the ballot.”

“Donald Trump has no plan whatsoever to protect the health of the American people,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul, who has led the fight to expand access to health care in Wisconsin. “We are almost four years into his presidency, and he attacked the Affordable Care Act, and promised a plan over, and over, and over again, and all we have seen are attacks and attempts to undermine our health care.”

“In ten years, Republicans have never had a replacement plan, they still have no replacement plan, and still are lying about protecting people with pre-existing conditions, said Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. “There could not be a more important issue than health care on the ballot in 2020.”

“I am so overwhelmed by the fact that the President continues to not only endanger the lives of Ameircans generally, but his own supporters. It just brings home the point that he cares about himself, and his own interests first and foremost,” said Kristin Urquiza, the founder of Marked by COVID, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August about losing her father, a Trump supporter, to COVID-19. “It is unacceptable for the President to be hosting in-person rallies right now.”

“As a country, we are stuck in neutral. We are not using an evidence-based national strategy, or doing the mobilization needed to suppress the virus. It doesn’t have to be this way,” said Dr. Jeff Huebner, a Wisconsin family physician and member of the national Board of Directors for Doctors for America. “The incompetence from the top has intentionally undermined the public health and research scientists, and my colleagues who are fighting COVID. Dr. Fauci, the CDC, the FDA, and our local public health departments have been shamefully undermined in their attempts to do what is needed to suppress the virus.”
