Madison, WI – NextGen Wisconsin supports the decision Governor Tony Evers made in postponing the election to June 9. According to public health officials, it is clear that any in-person voting at this time comes as a risk to Wisconsinites across the state.
“NextGen Wisconsin is committed to making sure young voters have an opportunity to be heard on election day in a safe manner. The bottom line is that an election held tomorrow would pose a hazard to the health of communities across Wisconsin,” said NextGen Wisconsin State Operations Director Christina Carvalho. “Any election that occurs at this moment will endanger lives and will lead to a faster spread of COVID-19.”
NextGen Wisconsin will be continuing to mobilize young voters across the Badger State online in advance of the postponed election.
“This decision will allow more young voters the chance to engage in their democracy in a safe manner,” said NextGen Wisconsin Organizing Director Jake Spence. “Young people continue to be a driving force in our state’s politics, and we will continue to give them the tools to mobilize each other in a manner which helps mitigate the harmful effects of COVID-19.”
