MILWAUKEE – Newly-elected Milwaukee Common Council President Cavalier Johnson will be the featured guest at a virtual event set for noon on Friday, May 22. This Newsmaker Lunch Hour is presented by a partnership between the Milwaukee Press Club and WisPolitics.com.

Johnson will field questions from a panel of journalists from noon to 1 p.m., moderated by Milwaukee Press Club President Gene Mueller, host of Wisconsin’s Morning News at Newsradio 620 WTMJ.

Johnson, who has served as Second District alderman since 2016, was elected Common Council president April 21. He defeated Ald. Milele Coggs for the leadership role on an 8-7 vote after the incumbent, Ald. Ashanti Hamilton, dropped out of the race and endorsed Coggs. A graduate of Bay View High School, Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to his election as alderman, Johnson was a staff assistant to Mayor Tom Barrett and worked for several area non-profit community organizations.
