MADISON, Wis. – John Imes, candidate for the 26th Senate seat being vacated by Fred Risser, announced today that he has been endorsed by Tia Nelson, the daughter of former Governor, U.S. Senator, and Earth Day Founder, Gaylord Nelson.

“I have known John and his environmental dedication and work for decades. We need more strong environmental advocates in our legislature. John is the only candidate with the credentials to address what we know is a crisis in our state and country. We cannot talk about building back our economy without action on climate change and addressing the rollbacks on environmental legislation under former Gov. Walker and our current President. John is a supporter of the Green New Deal, including the use of clean infrastructure and restoring natural systems, all of which are important to me.”

Tia Nelson may be best known recently for her fight against government efforts to suppress science on climate change while she held the position of Executive Secretary to the Wisconsin Board of Commissioners of Public Lands. She formerly spent 17 years as policy advisor for Latin America with the Nature Conservancy and was its first director of the Global Climate Change Initiative.

“I am honored to receive Tia Nelson’s endorsement. She is internationally recognized as a tireless champion for environmental stewardship and climate change education,” said Imes. Along with my experience as a small business owner, local government official, and an environmental non-profit leader, I know I can live up to the need we have in our state legislature for someone to speak up for the environment and more. She is a person many look up to, as do I, and I value her confidence in me for the job.”
