Madison – In the spirit of recognizing February as National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month (TDVAM), End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin (End Abuse) has announced it is hosting its annual Teen Summit on February 23-25, 2020 at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
The annual Teen Summit is End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin’s largest training; bringing youth, parents, educators, activists, and mentors together to learn about healthy relationships, teen dating violence, and sexual assault. The event will host over 600 young people, mentors, educators, and allies from around Wisconsin. Adult mentors and advocates who work with or support teens – including parents, caregivers, school personnel, and those involved with sexual assault and domestic violence programs, tribal programs, runaway programs, youth development organizations, and others – are registered to attend. This is an incredibly impactful event, laying foundations for a violence-free future.
“With more than 1 in 5 teens experiencing dating violence in Wisconsin, the Teen Summit offers our youth resources, hope, and opportunities to learn from one another so they can recognize healthy relationships and build a better future for Wisconsin,” said End Abuse Executive Director Patti Seger.
This year’s program is themed “Together We Will,” and encourages new ideas, reflective dialogue, and breakthrough thinking. There will be over 20 interactive workshops, 12 youth roundtable discussions on over 10 topics, and educational presentations. This year’s keynotes will be Violet Killmurray, a youth activist; Dr. Bettina Love, Author & Associate Professor of Educational Theory & Practice at the University of Georgia; and Lah Tere, Hip-Hop ARTivist/Educator. Ajani Carr, published youth author and entrepreneur, will also be back to lead a youth-focused seminar.
End Abuse would like to thank CUNA Mutual for their generous contribution to our efforts to make the Teen Summit as vibrant and accessible as possible.
“The CUNA Mutual Group Foundation is proud to grant $55,000 to End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin to support their efforts to engage youth statewide and help prevent gender violence and oppression,” said foundation executive director Alexzandra Shade. “Their objectives align with our philosophy that a brighter financial future should be accessible to everyone. We laud next week’s Teen Summit and the survivor-centered work that will take place to educate young people and embrace the voices of diverse communities.”
