MADISON —We invite you to tune in to Wisconsin Eye at noon today at wiseye.org/live for a live broadcast of the unveiling of the Wisconsin State Capitol POW/MIA Chair of Honor. While this ceremony is not open to the public due to the pandemic, planning is proceeding for a full-scale public dedication ceremony to be held next year.
POW/MIA Chairs of Honor are found across the United States and represent those service members who are unable to sit in them due to their sacrifices.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, Wisconsin Department of Revenue Secretary Peter Barca, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Mary Kolar, Wisconsin VFW Commander Jason Johns, and Rolling Thunder State Liaison Mark Herrmann will participate in the unveiling.
In Wisconsin, the POW/MIA Chair of Honor is part of the Veterans monument located on the 1st Floor of the Rotunda. A plaque recognizing captured or missing U.S. personnel is located above and behind the chair with following text: “Let this empty chair serve as a memorial to those who served in the military of our great nation, but have not returned home to us. Prisoners of War Missing in Action Wisconsin and All Americans will forever be grateful for your bravery and sacrifice in service to our nation. We will never forget.”
