Joe Biden told Wisconsin Dem activists on Friday the nation needs to confront systemic racism and can’t allow the wound of recent events to scab over without addressing the root cause.
Biden, addressing a virtual state convention through a recorded message, told Dems “Nothing about this is going to be easy and comfortable.”
Still, he urged them to stand with black and brown communities “to deliver justice for all.”
“If we stand together, we’ll win the battle for the soul of this nation,” Biden said. “We need to do this. We can do this, and we will do this.”
Against a backdrop of an international COVID-19 pandemic and the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, Dem elected officials on Friday urged those tuning in digitally to confront racism, organize for the fall and defeat President Trump.
Speakers also regularly urged viewers to continue taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as the state party for the first time canceled its in-person event and went to an all-virtual format.
Biden said the nation is dealing with multiple crises that demand leadership that will bring everyone together to address racism, but Trump is failing to meet the challenge.
